Thankfully, the research continues. A new study in the US on long Covid, mentioned in current news reports, claims that breakthrough has been made in the understanding of long Covid. The reports say that new understanding of long Covid might assist with the management of the condition. News like this offers hope to countless people living with long Covid.
To explain long Covid more clearly: While most patients recover from Covid-19 within a few weeks of the acute infection, a significant minority experience lingering symptoms which can last for months or even years. These symptoms are diverse, ranging from extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, and joint pain. They can also include more complex neurological effects, such as brain fog and memory impairments.
However, until now, identifying individuals at risk of long Covid before symptoms manifest has been difficult. This has left patients and clinicians with limited tools to prevent or mitigate its effects.
