The Picker PQS CT is an older model of computed tomography (CT) scanner. It was originally developed by Picker International, which was later acquired by Philips Medical Systems. Picker was known for producing reliable and user-friendly medical imaging equipment. The PQS series represented their focus on enhancing CT technology during the 1990s.

    Key Features

    1. Single-Slice Imaging: Unlike modern multi-slice CT scanners, the Picker PQS CT is a single-slice scanner, meaning it captures one cross-sectional image (slice) per rotation. While this technology has since been surpassed, it was considered effective for its time in basic diagnostic imaging.

    2. Variable Scan Speeds: The PQS series offered adjustable scan speeds, allowing clinicians to balance between image quality and scan time, based on the needs of each specific diagnostic procedure.

    3. Diagnostic Versatility: Despite being a single-slice scanner, it could still handle a range of applications, such as head, chest, and abdominal scans. This versatility made it a valuable tool in general diagnostic settings, particularly when high-resolution or rapid imaging wasn’t essential.

    4. Basic Dose Management: The PQS CT was built with some foundational dose management features, though not as advanced as contemporary scanners. It allowed clinicians to adjust settings to limit radiation exposure based on patient needs and specific exam types.

    5. User-Friendly Interface: Picker designed the PQS CT with a straightforward user interface to simplify the scanning process for technicians, making it an accessible choice in its time for smaller or less specialized facilities.

    Application

    • General Diagnostic Imaging: Ideal for general body scans where high-speed or high-resolution images were not critical.
    • Orthopedic Imaging: Useful for basic bone and joint imaging to diagnose fractures or other structural issues.
    • Neurology: Employed in head scans for basic neurological assessment, though modern systems offer much more detailed brain imaging.
