This was a hit for the company. The Toshiba Aquilion MultiSlice CT is a highly advanced series of computed tomography (CT) scanners developed by Toshiba Medical Systems (now part of Canon Medical Systems). The Aquilion series is well-regarded for its superior imaging capabilities, multi-slice technology, and focus on patient safety.

    Key Features

    1. Multi-Slice Technology. Depending on the specific model, the Aquilion CT can capture between 4 and 320 slices per rotation. Multi-slice imaging allows for faster scans and better resolution, making it ideal for detailed 3D imaging, dynamic studies, and rapid assessments in emergency settings. The Aquilion ONE, for example, can capture 640 slices with a single 320-detector row rotation due to its volume scanning capabilities.

    2. High-Speed Scanning. The Aquilion series is known for its fast scanning speed, which reduces the amount of time a patient needs to remain still, making it particularly useful for trauma or cardiac imaging where quick results are crucial. The fast scan also helps reduce motion artifacts, providing clearer images.

    3. Dose Reduction Technology. Toshiba incorporated advanced dose reduction features in the Aquilion series, such as AIDR 3D (Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction) and SUREExposure, which optimise radiation exposure based on the patient’s body size and anatomy while maintaining high image quality. This is critical for improving patient safety by reducing unnecessary radiation.

    4. Advanced Image Quality. With its high-resolution detectors and advanced image reconstruction algorithms, the Aquilion MultiSlice CT delivers excellent image quality. It captures detailed images of soft tissue, bones, and blood vessels, enhancing diagnostic accuracy in various fields such as neurology, cardiology, oncology, and orthopedics.

    5. Wide Bore Design. Some models, such as the Aquilion LB, offer a wide bore design, making it more comfortable for patients, particularly for those who are claustrophobic or require larger imaging space for specific procedures like radiation therapy planning.

    6. Versatility. The Aquilion CT series is versatile and widely used in different clinical settings. It is effective for cardiac imaging, angiography, oncology, neurological studies, and musculoskeletal assessments. The combination of multi-slice technology and high-speed scanning makes it useful in both routine diagnostic imaging and more complex cases.

    7. Applications. The Aquilion is used for various medical applications, including detecting and diagnosing diseases in the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and head, as well as in cardiovascular imaging, pulmonary studies, and emergency room assessments. Its fast imaging speed and dose-reducing features make it a preferred option for pediatric and cardiac imaging where reducing radiation exposure is critical.
